Design Inspiration.

There’s nothing quite like the feeling you get when you walk into a well designed space.

Whether it’s one that has been created for you, specifically, or one that has been carefully curated for someone else, it can arouse emotions down to your core.

In the past, only the truly well-traveled could experience that feeling in spaces other than their own homes Then magazines helped deliver a fragment of that feeling through glossy pages in living rooms across the globe. With the emergence of the internet, wifi and mobile devices and subsequent blogs and social media platforms, spaces are being thrown at us from every direction, making it hard as a whole to sort through and truly appreciate the images and stories behind them. For the average person, this rapid fire delivery can make design seem out of reach or overwhelming. You really have to be able to spot the good stuff among the furor.

At least the algorithms learn your preferences over time. So I rarely see spaces come across my Instagram feed that don’t make me swoon, and Pinterest does a lot of the same by serving you more content you’ve previously shown interest in.  We primarily turn to Instagram and Pinterest to get in the moment, “I need it now” inspiration, and also know without a doubt which magazines or TV shows/movies will help spark new ideas or help us brainstorm for a particular project.

What sparks inspiration is 100% subjective. What your friend drools over might make you roll your eyes, but if their space was designed well, you’ll still get a lovely, warm feeling while dwelling in it. You’ll feel and appreciate everything that is your friend as opposed to loathing the decor.

Our favorite spaces are usually a blend of design styles with a mix of feeling lived in and fresh, old and new, loads of texture and feel light while also grounded. Think Tropical Transitional, Mid-Mod Surf, California coastal. To figure out your own design style, scour the internet and magazine pages to find images that make you melt, plan out how you can convey those feelings into your own home, and potentially work with a designer to hone in on design styles and elements that best portray your personal style and execute them so that the functionality fits your lifestyle.
